General

What is ABC Special Socials?

ABC Special Socials provides safe, structured social events where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can build friendships, confidence, and meaningful relationships.

Who can attend?

Adults ages 18 and older with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Do I have to be looking for a romantic relationship?

No. Members may join to make friends, meet new people, or explore dating. Each member indicates whether they’re interested in Friendship, Dating, or Both.

Registration

How do I register?

Complete the online registration form and purchase your event ticket if required.

Can I attend more than one event?

Absolutely! Members are encouraged to attend as many events as they’d like.

Parents & Caregivers

Can parents or caregivers attend?

Yes. Caregivers are welcome when appropriate. Some events may include separate seating or waiting areas to encourage participant independence while still providing support if needed.

Can my support staff come with me?

Yes. DSPs, family members, and caregivers are welcome when needed. Volunteers will be provided by us when available.

Can I leave my loved one at the event?

This depends on the participant’s level of independence. Some attendees may require a caregiver to remain on-site. We’ll let you know during registration if this applies.

Safety

How do you keep participants safe?

All events are supervised by trained staff. We promote respect, boundaries, and appropriate social interactions.

Can members contact each other directly?

No. For everyone’s privacy and safety, members cannot exchange personal contact information through ABC Special Socials. Parent or guardian must direct the correct steps to make. ABC Special Socials only provides the safe, supervised space for socializing. Dating outside of social events must be under the discretion of parents or guardians.

What happens if someone is interested in another member?

Simply click “I’m Interested ” on a member’s profile or let our team know at an event. We review each request and, when appropriate, help facilitate introductions.

Matching

How are participants matched?

We consider factors such as age, interests, communication style, goals, and compatibility whenever possible.

Will everyone get a match?

Not necessarily. Building genuine friendships and relationships takes time, and we encourage participants to attend multiple events.
 

Can I request to meet someone I saw online?

Yes. Submit an interest request through our website, and our team will review it before making any introductions.

Events

What should I wear?

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident. There is no formal dress code unless an event specifically says otherwise.

What happens at a speed dating event?

You’ll have short, guided conversations with several participants in a relaxed, supportive environment. Icebreakers and activities help everyone feel comfortable.

Will there be games and activities?

Yes! Many events include games, icebreakers, dancing, and other social activities.

Membership

Do I need to become a member?

Membership may be required for some services or events. More information is available on our Membership page.

How much does it cost?

Event prices vary. Membership details and ticket prices will always be listed before registration.
